Alright, here I come, the Starbucks grinch. First of all, do people really enjoy these drinks? Like for real, did anyone buy this and actually enjoy? Please let me know if you are one of those people..

Okay, down to numbers. This unicorn “frappuccino” (I use quotes because calling this thing anything related to coffee is like giving someone tofu and saying that it’s a steak) but anyway, this “frappuccino” is basically liquid death. I want to focus mainly on the sugar content, but beyond that, it is full of artificial flavors, carageenan, maltodextrin, dextrose, etc. (but no corn syrup/high fructose corn syrup at least, kudos to Starbucks I guess. Except that many of these other words mean the same thing, but moving on..)

So let’s say you get a grande, nonfat milk, with whip. That’s 59 grams of sugar. And if you dare get the venti? 79 grams of sugar. That’s like eating 3 Snickers bars. Or 72 gummy bears. Or just under a liter of Coke. Or 4 Twinkies. Or 8 Krispy Kreme glazed donuts.

To add insult to injury, this drink also contains 80 grams of carbohydrates!! (like drinking a 6-pack of beer) And 450 calories! (1/4 of your daily calories) G00d-ness. And 40 grams of cholesterol (and not the good kind). But at least you got the fat free milk so it wouldn’t make you fat…

The fact that you are in-taking all of this in liquid form is such an assault on your blood sugar levels. It is so quickly and easily digested that it is an almost immediate spike, with nothing to slow down the absorption. All those sugars and carbs basically have a VIP pass directly into your bloodstream.

There are so many other options if you just HAVE to have your sweet coffee drink. Find a local shop that makes their own syrups, or just get past the sugar addiction and enjoy a beneficial cup of black coffee: 0 sugar, 0 calories. Good quality black coffee provides the natural caffeine, minus the harmful sugars and artificial ingredients. It also is a great supply of antioxidants. And while we are on the subject of quality coffee, don’t associate quality and Starbucks together. They get defect beans and roast them so dark that you can’t tell the difference. It’s a way that they get cheaper beans and trick you into drinking them.
